Polio has been eradicated in over 50 countries, and remains endemic in only four (Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan). The crippling disease reemerged in South Sudan in 2008, and efforts from the Government of Southern Sudan, USAID and other partners like Save the Children, has halted the outbreak through mass polio immunization campaigns around the country. Here, 3-year-old Regina Rebecca Lokai receives the polio vaccine during the Save the Children Paringa Child Health Day.
